Bernard Doherty

Bernard Doherty

Lives and works in bushland Victoria.

Bernard is a master jeweller with 30 years' experience. His first solo exhibition was held at Accent Gallery, Perth, Western Australia, in August 2002. Bernard is kept busy with commissions and regularly sells work in London and through the Internet in North America. He is generally too busy to enter competitions, but was selected for exhibition at the 2005 Tokyo Shippo Enamel Conference exhibition and the Alice Springs Art Prize 2005.

Plique-a-jour enamelling is the rare technique he uses. This resembles miniature stained glass and is reminiscent of its Art Nouveau influences. The intricate metalwork skeletons require knowledge and skill in fashioning fine filigree forms. The richly coloured transparent enamels reflect themes from nature.
